Oracle announced Thursday that its second South Korean cloud area will go live in Chuncheon on May 29. The tech giant will have a total of 36 cloud regions up and running by the end of the year. The new opening follows the launch of the Seoul Cloud area of Oracle in May 2019. With this launch, the Oracle Gen2 Cloud will be accessible in 23 locations. “Oracle’s second-generation cloud has been built to provide businesses with autonomous technology and enhanced security,” said Tom Song, Regional Managing Director of Oracle Korea. “With its unprecedented capabilities, Oracle Cloud is speeding the digital transformation of local enterprise customers.” In addition to Korea, there are four other countries with several Oracle cloud regions: the United States, Canada, Japan and Australia. Oracle also has several regions within the European Union. This redundancy is useful for disaster recovery purposes as well as for helping businesses meet data residency requirements. The idea is to give business customers more confidence to think about moving critical systems to the cloud. Oracle has highlighted a number of companies from a range of industries that are already using its cloud infrastructure in Korea. Seoul customers include HMM, JW Pharmaceuticals, Whois, Hdac Technology, Medicom, Inzent, Foresys, Dodream System, Institute of Blockchain Technology (IBCT), Astems, Dain Members, Tribons, CIP System, Digital Picture, Idea Information Technology, Uloop, Synergy21, Korea Media Network, Art Box, Nuri Telecom, Davichi, Huchems, Kiheung Motors and Baba Group. Oracle has launched new customers with its growing cloud infrastructure, but it can also cater to existing customers, due to its strength in database and business applications.
