Despite users gradually moving away from SMS text message to other forms, SMS text messages still has its uses. Did you know it was possible to send a text message from your computer? Many texting websites allow you to send SMS messages for free. Many sites don’t require registration. These are the top sites for sending free text messages to your cell phone.

1. TextEm

TextEm allows you to send text messages for free, but first you need an account. While some may prefer to communicate anonymously, an account offers some significant benefits. You can create a list of contacts that are frequently used and, depending on the carrier, get replies to your TextEm inbox. You can also set up email replies if the carrier doesn’t support TextEm. Support is available for more than 100 carriers in the US and Canada. It is not recommended that you use this service if you are unable to send a message from outside North America. TextEm cannot support bulk messaging. You can’t send the same message to multiple numbers at once. Rest assured, there are other services that offer bulk messaging.

2. SendSMSnow

SendSMSnow, another free SMS service, requires that you create an account before sending messages. After creating an account, you will be able to create a phonebook with contacts, upload profile photos, and receive replies in your personal email inbox. SendSMSnow supports group messaging but it is not free. You will be charged 1 cent per message sent to each user in the group. A single SMS to a group of 20 people would cost $0.20. The service should work with all cell phones worldwide, in theory. Although we are unable to verify these claims, you can reasonably assume that most North American and European carriers will be supported. Maximum characters allowed in messages are 130

3. OpenTextingOnline

OpenTextingOnline allows you to send SMS messages online for free without having to create an account. It is compatible with carriers in approximately 50 countries. It covers most of North America and Europe, as well as some lesser-known locations such as India, Nepal and Panama. Be aware that not all carriers are supported in all countries. You might only find one or two carriers that work in exotic locales. OpenTextingOnline allows you to attach images, videos and audio to your SMS. This feature is very rare among free SMS services. You do not have to create an account to receive replies to messages. 140 characters are the maximum length for a message.

4. txtDrop

txtDrop has been a trusted name in the online world of free SMS. It has been in operation since 2013 and has delivered over 25 million messages. Although you don’t have to create an account for this, you can still receive emails in your inbox if you choose. txtDrop also offers a macOS widget. It allows you to send messages from your Mac directly without having to visit the official site. You can even use the widget on your website if you own it. This service allows you to send messages free of charge to the USA and Canada. Other countries are not supported.

5. Send Anonymous SMS

You can also send anonymous SMS messages online for free and without registration. The service does not require personal information to send a text message. This service may be the best option if you are looking to make a fool of someone. You can fake a number to appear on the screen of the recipient, unlike the free SMS sites. Although it is not clear how this would work, it’s worth trying if you want to pull off an elaborate prank. Be sure to follow the law. Send Anonymous SMS supports up to 145 characters, and more than 80 countries.

6. TextEmNow

TextEmNow is another service that we love. It has a higher character count which is the main reason it’s worth recommending. Unlike most free SMS sites–which have a limit of around 150 characters–TextEmNow lets you write messages that are up to 300 characters long. Site developers claim that they don’t log IP addresses. Although we can’t confirm it, all other texting sites that we’ve reviewed explicitly state they log IP addresses (for spam/abuse monitoring). TextEmNow’s approach to this is refreshing. Although technically, TextEmNow can be used to send any number of mobile phones around the globe, there may be restrictions based on where you are located.

7. Globfone

Globfone allows you to send free text messages from your computer, whether it’s local, national, or international. It is easy to do so in five steps. You don’t need an account. Simply add the name of the person, choose the country code, enter a number, and hit the Send button. Globfone is not available for sending replies or attaching other content such as pictures or videos.

8. Textport

Textport allows you to send and receive messages from any US-based mobile phone number. MMS messages can also be sent on an outbound or inbound basis. You have the option to send the message from Los Angeles, New York or Houston depending on where your recipient is located. You can send up three messages per session using MMS or emojis. You can also get unlimited replies.

9. AFreeSMS

AFreeSMS offers an international SMS service you can use free. Although it claims to be the fastest SMS service in the world, we are unable to verify these claims. The drop-down menu offers a complete list of all global countries, but it’s not clear if the service has any agreements with network providers in all locations. Each message can not exceed 160 characters

10. SENDaTEXT

Our final entry is SENDaTEXT. You can send a free SMS using your smartphone and computer, which makes it unique among free SMS services. You can also place free phone calls via the same web interface. It is one of few free SMS apps. You can reply. The main problem with the service is its character limit. You can only use 120 characters. If you are looking for more information, check out our article about the best apps to make FREE phone calls. You can even use unlimited SMS with some apps if you’re connected to Wi-Fi networks.
